Rene Gonzalez is an international lawyer and seasoned legal executive with a proven track record of leadership in organizational transformation, talent development, and management of complex legal, regulatory, and transactional matters. He currently serves as Executive Counsel with Exxon Mobil Corporation, bringing over 32 years of experience, including 14 years in international assignments.

Rene previously held General Counsel roles in ExxonMobil affiliates in Brazil, Thailand, China, Colombia, and Mexico, where he led legal teams and advised on a wide range of issues including corporate governance, major transactions, litigation, securities, regulatory compliance, and risk management. Most recently, he served as General Counsel for ExxonMobil Exploração Brasil Ltda. from September 2020 through September 2023.

Rene currently serves on the Executive Council of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Center for Energy, Law & Business and previously served as Treasurer of the Fulbright – Thailand United States Educational Foundation from 2010 to 2012.

He earned a B.A. with Honors in Government from the University of Texas at Austin in 1990 and a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law in 1993.
